The first task is to verify the presence of a leak. Occasionally meters are misread which can trigger unnecessary stress, confusion and generate an excessive bill. If there’s no leak that’s great news. However, If there is, you’re in good hands and we’ll get to work pinpointing the issue.

Sometimes leaks can be fairly straightforward to find with nothing more sophisticated than a listening stick. Other times they can be considerably harder to locate. Depending on the size and complexity of your site, accurate detection can become be very tricky. Sections of the water network may have to be isolated to aid the detection. Exceptionally long supply pipes can be considerably harder to pinpoint leaks on, especially if there are few or no fittings available. In those circumstances we may suggest excavating a small hole to allow us to install a stoptap or valve, both for monitoring (listening) purposes and to allow us to strategically isolate a length of supply and eliminate it from the investigation. If a stoptap is unlikely to have future benefits and the pipe material is MDPE or Alkathene then we may be able to use a squeeze-off clamp to temporarily restrict the flow of water.

Once we have located the origin on the issue we’ll mark the suspected area and provide a detailed report, highlighting the conclusions of the investigation and recommendations on what to do next.
